WHAT COVERAGE DOES A SOLAR INSTALLER NEED?

GENERAL LIABILITY

Covers bodily injury and property damage to third parties — a homeowner, GC, or member of the public — caused by your work or operations. Required on virtually every residential and commercial solar job.

COMPLETED OPERATIONS

Protects you after installation is done. If a solar array you mounted causes a roof leak or electrical damage months later, completed operations coverage responds.

WORKERS’ COMP

Required when you have employees. Covers medical bills and lost wages for workers injured on the job. Roof and panel work carries real exposure — don’t skip this.

TOOLS & EQUIPMENT

Covers your inverters, racking systems, meters, and hand tools if stolen from a job site or vehicle. Often bundled into a BOP for small solar contractors.

SOLAR INSTALLER INSURANCE IN TEXAS — WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Texas is one of the fastest-growing solar markets in the country. As residential and commercial installs increase, so does the demand for licensed, insured solar contractors. Most homeowners, GCs, and utilities will require a certificate of insurance before work begins — and many require $1M/$2M GL limits as a minimum.

At Anchorpoint Insurance Services, we’ve been writing contractor GL in Texas since 2010. We work with A-rated carriers that understand solar installation risk — including rooftop work, electrical connections, and completed operations exposure. You can quote and bind online through NEXT Insurance, or call us directly for a custom program.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do I need a contractor’s license to get solar installer insurance in Texas?

Texas does not have a state-level solar contractor license, but electrical work associated with solar installs requires a licensed electrician. Most carriers will ask about your trade classification and operations — we’ll make sure you’re classified correctly so your coverage actually responds at claim time.

What GL limits do solar contractors typically need in Texas?

$1M per occurrence / $2M aggregate is the most common requirement from GCs, utilities, and commercial property owners. Residential jobs may accept lower limits, but we recommend $1M/$2M as a baseline.

Can I get covered today if I have a job starting tomorrow?

Yes. Online binding through NEXT issues your policy and COI within minutes. If you need a custom certificate with additional insured language, call us at 210-640-7050 and we’ll handle it same day.

Does GL cover damage I cause to a customer’s roof during installation?

Yes — property damage to third parties is a core coverage under GL. If your crew damages a roof, flashing, or interior during installation, your GL policy covers the repair costs up to your policy limits.

Do you insure solar installers across all of Texas?

Yes. We write solar contractor GL statewide — Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, and everywhere in between. Licensed Texas agents since 2010.
